Originally from Ukraine and having attended top art schools there, Anya Chibis and her family immigrated to Canada in 1995 where she continued her studies in art and film school. Soon after completing her studies in Canada, Anya moved to Moscow to do her graduate studies in film. While in Moscow, Anya became a successful Fashion photographer, working for many Russian and International publications. However, she eventually found working in glamour and fashion to be out of touch with the reality of life. In 2009 she decided to move to New York and recreate herself as a portrait and lifestyle photographer
As a portrait artist, Anya’s images tell engaging human stories, finding cinematic inspiration from her film studies background. She chooses to use minimal post-production in her work. Based out of LA now, she also splits her time in Toronto.
Aside from her commercial and editorial work, Anya has also created an impressive body of personal work throughout her many travels. One series she’s created are environmental portraits of artists photographed in their studios. She’s also been working on a series about Parkour, the recent athletic phenomena sweeping around the world. Both series clearly reflect her cinematic approach to photography.
